The Living Tree Communities got it's first breath of life in 2007 when two members of the Emmaus Road church in Beaverton Oregon sat down to talk. Their simple conversation about missions suddenly turned into something dramatically different. Minutes turned into hours as they discussed this concept of building a community where families would live as one body, raising up foster children. God lit an undeniable fire inside of them. After 3 years of praying, seeking the Lord and planning they finally felt God saying that it was time to take the first step in this faith filled journey.
The name 'The Living Tree' came from Emmaus Road church. The tree is a symbolic model for their house church type community. The tree in the model has 4 roots, each one representing the four aspects of house church and how the body functioned in the book of Acts. The vision of the tree was something that God shared with the founders of the church over a period of time. The concept is simple...live out the four roots and the tree will be fruitful.
When pondering ideas for the name of the community, The Living Tree Communities just seemed to fit.
In January of 2012, the first steps were made.
